8 Amazing Alternative Uses for Premium Extra Virgin Olive Oil

Do you have extra virgin olive oil in your kitchen? If so, congratulations! You’re well on your way to becoming an expert in cooking and baking. The uses for this delicious and versatile oil are almost endless — it has been used for thousands of years as a culinary staple. But did you know that EVOO (which I also like calling “liquid gold”) can be used for more than just cooking? Here are 8 amazing alternative uses for ELIA Extra Virgin Olive Oil.

Use EVOO to increase hair shine and help with hair growth.

If you want to increase shine and help with hair growth, EVOO is a great product to use. It should be massaged into the scalp, combed through and left in for 15 minutes before rinsing well with warm water.

Use EVOO as shaving cream to prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs.

You can use extra virgin olive oil to shave your legs. This is actually a common practice in many Mediterranean countries, and it works! The oil helps prevent razor burn and ingrown hairs. To do this, you'll need a shaving brush (you can find inexpensive ones at the drugstore), some extra virgin olive oil, warm water, and a moisturizer of choice after you're finished shaving.

Apply a small amount of EVOO with the shaving brush before you start shaving —use about half as much as you would use for cooking or dressing salads.

  • Shave as usual until all traces of hair are gone.

  • Rinse off any residual EVOO with warm water while massaging the area where you shaved until it feels smooth again; dry thoroughly with a towel before applying moisturizer so that there's no chance of irritation from remaining moisture on skin surface!

Combine with baking soda for a gentle, exfoliating body scrub.

Combine equal parts baking soda and olive oil in a small bowl. Mix well.

Use a small amount of the mixture on wet skin, massaging gently in circular motions. Rinse off with warm water after 15 to 20 minutes.

Mix with a bit of salt for a natural foot deodorizer.

Mix together 1/2 cup olive oil and 1/4 cup salt in a small bowl until the salt is dissolved.

  • Rub the mixture on your feet, then cover with socks and leave it on for 30 minutes. Don't forget to dry your feet afterward!

  • If you want to really pamper yourself, repeat this process once or twice a week.

Apply the oil to cracked heels, let sit for 10 minutes, then scrub heels gently with a pumice stone.

Take a shower or bath, then apply the oil to your skin after you have rinsed off.

  • Let the oil sit for 10 minutes before scrubbing with a pumice stone or foot file to remove dead skin. This can be done daily until desired results are achieved. Be careful not to overdo it!

  • Rinse thoroughly and dry feet thoroughly with a towel before putting on socks and shoes so that the moisture does not cause further damage to your heels!

Use EVOO as an eye makeup remover. (Be careful not to get any in your eyes!)

To remove eye makeup, you'll need:

  • Extra virgin olive oil

  • Cotton pads

  • Dip your cotton pad in the EVOO and use a gentle, circular motion to gently remove eye makeup.

  • Remove residue with a clean cotton pad soaked in water or toner if you prefer (this step isn't necessary). If there's any excess oil left on your face after this step, just rinse it off with warm water until it's all gone—you don't want to rub too hard!

Use EVOO as lip balm instead of Chapstick® or other store-bought lip balm.

If you're looking for a natural alternative to Chapstick®, olive oil can be used as a lip balm. Olive oil has been shown to have antibacterial properties and can help protect your lips from chapping, dryness, sun damage and irritation. To use extra virgin olive oil as a lip balm:

  • Use a cotton swab or eye makeup brush to apply the oil directly on your lips.

  • Use a tiny spoon or small spatula if you have one available.

  • If all else fails (and you're not afraid of getting some in your mouth), use an old toothbrush!

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Combine with brown sugar for a natural lip scrub.

Combine 1 teaspoon of brown sugar with 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a small bowl.

  • Rub the mixture onto your lips, using circular motions.

  • Rinse with warm water and pat dry. Repeat as desired to remove dead skin cells from your lips.
